OUR CAMP'S UNIT DESIGNATION IS  COMPANY 1 OF THE TENTH TEXAS STATE TROOPS BEAT 7 OF THE ALTO AREA ( LISTED BELOW) OF WHICH CAMP MEMBER KEN MCCLURE'S G,G,G, GRANDAD GEORGE C. HOLCOMB WAS THE CAPTAIN. THIS FAMOUS UNIT WAS CALLED HOLCOMB'S CHEROKEE COUNTY DEFENDERS AND LATER WENT ON TO MERGE AND CONSOLIDATE WITH ANOTHER VERY FAMOUS UNIT, THE 18TH TEXAS REGIMENT, WALKER'S GREYHOUNDS WHO WERE VERY INSTRUMENTAL IN THE SOUTH'S DOMINANT VICTORY OVER THE NORTHERN INVADERS AT MANSFIELD AND PLEASANT HILL LOUISIANA IN APRIL OF 1864.  AS OUR ANCESTORS DID IN THE WAR OF NORTHERN AGGRESSION  OUR CAMP NOW DEFENDS DIXIE IN THE ENTIRE COUNTY OF CHEROKEE. THIS PAGE IS IN HONOR OF AND DEDICATED TO OUR CONFEDERATE ANCESTORS FROM CHEROKEE COUNTY WHO ANSWERED THE CALL TO ARMS TO DEFEND THE SOUTH  DURING THE CIVIL WAR  (WAR OF NORTHERN AGGRESSION)  FROM 1861 TO 1865. WE MEMBERS OF THE SONS OF CONFEDERATE VETERANS CROSS OF SAINT ANDREW CAMP #2009 OF CHEROKEE COUNTY HAVE MANY ANCESTORS WHO SERVED IN THESE FAMOUS UNITS AND ARE EXTREMELY PROUD OF OUR SOUTHERN HEROES FROM CHEROKEE COUNTY WHO SERVED  THE SOUTH IN THE CONFEDERATE ARMY. OVER 2,000 BRAVE  GALLANT MEN FROM OUR COUNTY LEFT THEIR HOMES AND FAMILIES TO FACE AN OVERWHELMING INVADING ARMY AND IT IS OUR DUTY TO ENSURE THEIR SERVICE AND SACRIFICES THEY ENDURED DEFENDING DIXIE DURING THE WAR OF NORTHERN AGGRESSION ARE NEVER FORGOTTEN.      DEO VINDICE ! ! !
